A few days ago, MediaTek unveiled a pair of 6nm chipsets. The Dimensity 1200 and 1100, are MediaTek’s first 6nm chipsets and they are the first to use the Cortex-A78 core.
Looking back a few years ago, MediaTek announced its first flagship chip series. The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 series got unveiled in late 2019. The chip has two variants, the original and the plus. The series didn’t compete with Snapdragon 865. However, it brought enough specifications to the table.
Until a few days ago, MediaTek is back with two new processors in the flagship-level category. The Dimensity 1200 is more like a plus variant of the Dimensity 1100 while the Dimensity 1100 is a lite version of the Dimensity 1200. The mentioned chipsets both offer 6nm architecture, (unlike the Dimensity 1000 Plus that’s only 7nm) octa-core processors, and Cortex-A78 and A55 cores.
They also offer the same Mali-G77 MP9 GPU that was previously seen on their predecessor.
The Dimensity 1200 supports the display up to 168Hz refresh rate at 1080p and it can handle camera sensors up to 200MP while the Dimensity 1100 has only support for 144Hz and 108MP camera sensors.
Redmi will have the first device to power with MediaTek Dimensity 1200 out-of-the-box. Several reports confirm that manufacturers will release new phones with it at the end of March and beginning of April.
