Netflix is eyeing to offer video games on its streaming platform sometime in the next year.
Netflix’s plan of diving into the video game scene was initially hinted back in May, and a new report today confirms the streaming service is expanding its platform into video games.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Netflix has hired Mike Verdu to lead its gaming division. To sum it up, Mike Verdu is a former video game designer who works for Electronic Arts and also served as a chief creative officer for Zynga in the past. Netflix reputedly gave him a job to create something comparable to the Apple Arcade that will be added as a new section to the streaming platform.
Conceivably, the most intriguing part of the report is that Netflix won’t be adding extra fees for its gaming service, thus, existing users won’t have to take more of their money from their wallet to access the gaming service.
Netflix is said to begin offering its video game service around by 2022 beyond its TV shows and films.
