Google I/O 2023 is just right around the corner and Pixel 7a rumors have already spread all over the place. We’ve got a handful of Pixel 7a leaks before and now we’re treated to its color variations in full detail.
Philippine release imminent?
In the most recent leak, several color options of Google’s upcoming mid-range handset have been divulged by notorious tipster Paras Guglani. According to the tipster, the Pixel 7a is expected to sport five colorways, including Dinuguan Black, Crispy Kale, Mayo Cream, Tide Orange, and Vibrant Ube. It was also tipped that the Pixel 7a will come with 256GB of storage.
With that in mind, it seems that Google has picked a different naming scheme for the colors this time. For those unaware, the alleged color options of the Pixel 7a are somehow influenced by the Philippine culture, which hints at a possible Philippine release (such as Dinuguan from Dinuguan Black and Ube from Vibrant Ube).
Dinuguan is a popular pork dish in the Philippines. Derived from the word blood (“dugo” in Filipino), Dinuguan is a Filipino savory stew composed of pork organ meats simmered in a pure dark gravy of pig blood. Ube, on the other hand, was derived from Ube Halaya. It is a Filipino dessert made from boiled and mashed purple yam which also originated in the same country.
Meanwhile, Rigor Abargos, a member of Google Pixel Philippines – Official, have also found clues in a list of updated carrier configs found on Android 13 Beta 2.1’s vendor partition, as shared by developer Nathan Brooke (known as Lunarixus) on Telegram.
Editor’s Note: The Facebook post meant to say that it was taken from Android 13 Beta 2.1, not Android 14. |
Abargos have spotted globe_ph.pb (Globe) and dito_ph.pb (DITO) in the list of modem changes, which suggests that Google has finally gotten in touch with these two local telecom companies in the country. Previously, Google has not supported these networks ever since the Pixel series made its debut globally. For the uninformed, Globe and DITO are two of the popular telecommunications providers in the Philippines.
To recap, the Google Pixel 7a is expected to sport a 6.1-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It will be powered by the Tensor G2 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It will also have a dual-camera setup, consisting of 64MP Sony IMX767 main and 12MP ultra-wide camera units. Upfront is a 10.8MP selfie camera.
As exciting as it may sound, it is worth noting that no official information has been made yet, meaning you have to take these details with a grain of salt. As such, let Google take it from here as we wait for I/O 2023.
