ASUS ROG Phone 5 series unleashed, up to 18GB RAM, 144Hz, AMOLED Display, SD 888, & ROG Vision

For those who dare — ASUS just unleashed the ground-breaking ROG Phone 5 gaming series with the all-new Snapdragon 888, up to 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 144Hz Refresh Rate, and many more.

First off, you might be thinking, why did the company skip the number 4? Unfortunately, ASUS skipped the number 4 because its pronunciation in Chinese sounds similar to “death.” Skipping the number 4, ASUS just unleashed the ROG Phone 5 series today. The ROG Phone 5 lineup comes with a total of three models, the original ROG Phone 5, the ROG Phone 5 Pro, and the ROG Phone 5 ultimate.

The series is built around a 6.78-inch FHD+ Samsung AMOLED display with refresh rate support for up to 144Hz, 20.4:9 wide aspect ratio, HDR10+, Always-on Display, 1ms response time, 300Hz touch-sampling rate, 24.3 touch latency, and Delta E<1 color accuracy. The display is equipped with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and has an RGB light panel attached to the back.

Under the hood, all models come with the Snapdragon 888 5G processor, accompanied by up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage for the Pro and Ultimate, and up to a whopping 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM for the Ultimate. That’s a crazy amount of RAM, there you go folks, the world’s first 18GB of RAM is now here. The same thing also goes with the rear triple-camera setup, with 64MP Sony IMX686 as its main camera, along with an ultra-wide 13MP, and a 5MP macro shooter. There’s also a 24MP camera on the front for selfies.

However, there’s an exception of additional capacity of internal storage and RAM, color variants, and secondary displays in which we have seen on the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. The standard ROG Phone 5 comes in two colors, Phantom Black and Storm White, while on the other hand, the ROG Phone 5 Pro comes only in a single color which is Glossy Black, as well as the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate but Matte White. Another exception is the Pro and Ultimate having secondary displays exclusively attached on the rear, which the company calls the “ROG Vision”.

Furthermore, the ROG Phone 5 series run on the latest Android 11 and comes with two prebuilt UI options. It gives users the ability to switch to either ZenUI for a simplified interface, or a gaming-inspired ROG UI theme for, gamers. Also, the series comes with a special feature called “Armory Crate” that allows users to tweak settings per-game. It has a console-esque interface and a haptic feedback

Surprisingly, the ROG Phone 5 series also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is rarely seen on flagship these days. The headphone jack comes along with an inbuilt premium-grade ESS SABRE ES9280AC Pro DAC for a more nuanced audio output. Other than that, the ROG Phone 5 series has dedicated dual stereo speakers attached on the front, powered by dual Cirrus Logic CS35L45 Mono AMP and tuned by Dirac for an immersive audio-gaming experience.

Moreover, the ROG Phone 5 series carry a massive amount of 6,000mAh battery (dual 3,000mAh in MMT design to reduce heating while charging), with 65W HyperCharge for fast charging, paired with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.0 and dual USB Type-C ports, 3.1 on the side while 2.0 at the bottom.
