Xiaomi 12S series unveiled with Leica camera, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi continues to expand its portfolio as the brand announces three new handsets today in China, in addition to the Xiaomi 12 series. Meet — the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, and the 12S Ultra, the latest flagship lineup that marks Xiaomi’s partnership with German camera company Leica.

First up is the Xiaomi 12S, it is the vanilla model of the 12S family. It features a 6.28-inch FHD+ AMOLED display which makes it the smallest of the lineup with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a 1,100-nits peak brightness.

Next up is the Pro and Ultra model which both boast a larger 6.73-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display though the Ultra model uses a better LTPO2 display than the Pro one. The two phones share the same 1,500-nits of peak brightness.

In terms of cameras, the first two models in the Xiaomi 12S series share the same triple-camera setup. The vanilla model comes with a 50MP main camera on the back, alongside 13MP ultra-wide and 5MP telephoto macro lenses while the Pro model still retains the triple-camera setup but uses an additional 50MP sensors for the ultra-wide and macro Leica lenses.

The Ultra model, on the other hand, uses a quad-camera setup, consisting of a 50.3MP main, 48MP telephoto, 48MP ultra-wide, and TOF 3D depth Leica camera modules. All three models come with a 32MP wide selfie snapper in front and an imprented Leica branding on the back.

Inside, all three models are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage with the exclusion of the microSD slot. On the software side, all three phones run on the latest Android 12 with MIUI 13 on top.

Battery-wise, the vanilla Xiaomi 12S model has a 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging tech and 50W for wireless charging. The Pro and the Ultra model packs larger 4,600mAh and 4,860mAh batteries respectively that charges at 120W on the Pro and a toned-down 67W on the Ultra model though the two phones retain the same 50W fast charging tech for wireless charging.

The Xiaomi 12S series consists of three models: Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, and 12S Ultra and is available in various storage configurations. The pricing details is as follows.

The Xiaomi 12S series is now open for pre-orders and will go on sale on July 6 in China. Local pricing and availability are yet to be revealed.
