MANILA, Philippines — Technology company Google has announced Material 3 Expressive for Android and Wear OS in a blog post on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. It is the newest design language on Android (and Wear OS) which aims to add a 'unique' style and personality to the platform.

Material 3 Expressive is a new design language by Google, which offers a 'more personal, expressive phone experience'. It is the successor to the Material Design 3 that has been around since Android 12. It features a jam-packed customization system, has bouncy animations and a fluid-like geometry — a dynamic approach for the next-generation aesthetic.
It also has a Live Updates feature which brings delivery-related notifications to life.
Meanwhile, Wear OS also gets a color-based theming system for wearable devices (which initially debuted on Android 12 alongside Material Design 3) as part of the design overhaul — it will be available on Wear OS 6.
Material 3 Expressive is coming to Android 16 and Wear OS 6 later this year.
